About  the BRICS Africa Trade Centre

BRIC, (Brazil, Russia, India and China) - BRICS now that South Africa is a member, is a powerful bloc of emerging economies which comprise more than 2.8 billion people or 40 percent of the world’s population, cover more than a quarter of the world’s land area over four continents and accounts for more than 25 percent of global GDP.

South African International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoane-Mashabane, in a brief to journalists, said "South Africa goes into BRICS remembering fully well that we are an integral part of this continent of Africa". "Wherever South Africa finds itself in a forum ... where other African countries are not represented, we do not speak for South Africa alone but also for all other African countries."

South Africa's admission to the trade bloc and the above statement led South African Trade Promotions (SATP) to propose the development of  an affordable electronic service to enable mainstream business to network with buyers and established businesses participating on international trade shows..

To validate the idea, SATP staged the BRICS Africa Export Import Forum and Exhibition in July of 2012. This event was co-located with SAITEX, the 20th Southern African International Trade Exhibition which was attended by 15 253 visitors from 53 countries. The Forum comprised 'BRICS Country Opportunity Presentations' convened by the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the NEPAD Business Foundation, Export Import Workshops convened by the International Trade Institute of Southern Africa and an exhibition of BRICS country trade services - including banks and financial servdices providers, export councils, small business development agencies, certification and logistics and freight service providers, media owners and many others.
